bbc scotlandTam Cowan will return to Radio Scotland on Saturday following a two week suspension.

The Daily Record columnist was suspended after an article about woman’s football was heavily criticised on social media.

Following a woman’s international at Fir Park the Motherwell fan wrote that the venue should be : “torched… in order to cleanse the stadium after it played host to women’s football”.

Following a two week break without his sidekick Stuart Cosgrove Cowan will return to the radio on Saturday to co-host the ‘Off The Ball’ programme.

A BBC Scotland spokesperson said: “We’ve had several discussions with Tam following his newspaper column and he has made it clear to us that he made a serious error of judgement, for which he has apologised.

“He has also been reminded of his responsibilities as a broadcaster for BBC Scotland and on that basis, he will be back co-presenting Off the Ball this weekend.”

While Cowan had his knuckles rapped by the state broadcaster it appears that almost anything else goes in the sports department where BBC Scotland seems to be the favoured outlet for Jack Irvine’s Media House.

On Monday night Radio Scotland broke the news about Dave King hosting a meeting with Craig Mather and Brian Stockbridge without questioning King’s suitability to be involved in football.

As well as being a director of Rangers during administration and liquidation he has also had his own issues with the South African tax authorities.

After years of legal action King is believed to have paid around £45m to the authorities to avoid a prison term.

Despite this obvious conflict with the SFA’s apparent ‘fit and proper person test’ BBC Scotland chose to overlook the matter to discuss the investment opportunities at Sevco- just over a week after the club announced losses of over £14m in it’s first audited accounts.

Last night’s show also featured a pre recorded interview with former Rangers chairman Al Johnston who provided some detail on the relationship between Irvine, Dave Murray and Craig Whyte.

Among the information that was broadcast Johnston claimed that Murray was impressed by how Whyte had hired a PR company to delete his google history- despite claiming that he had been duped by the former billionaire from Motherwell.

After the show McIntyre hinted on twitter that further revelations were to follow before pulling the plug on the issue.

McIntyre tweeted: “@ChrisGraham76 Agreed. Very strong words from AJ – but def much more to come from him. Lots recorded that I couldn’t put out tonight.”

Unfortunately that was followed quickly by: “@ChrisGraham76 No. So much has to okd by lawyers in interviews like that. Put out what we could tonight. The rest won’t be aired.”

The SFA’s strict rules for a ‘Fit and proper person’ for sevco owners or directors = you must be a bigot, with a heart beat, and some cash.

      • Sweeney Hughes says:

I don’t think tam would have gotten so far if he was a moron, though in saying thatb being a wee fat specky baldy* ugly bigoted sectarian sectarian sexist racist doesn’t seem to have done his career in Bonnie Scotland any harm, strange why he has never been called up for a gig with the real BBC in all the years he’s been in the game though…..na mibby no.

*Apologies to any wee fat specky Tims out their, although as you can see I’ve assumed your not ugly due to the fact you are indeed a Tim.
