Amsterdam policeAttention is being increasingly focused on the brutality of the Dutch police following the recent Ajax-Celtic match in Amsterdam.

Following the predictable blaming of Celtic supporters for the trouble more and more evidence is emerging of the way that innocent fans were attacked by undercover cops with You Tube littered with clips.

Celtic have now engaged with a lawyer in Amsterdam to look into the matter with the Celtic Trust compiling a dossier of claims from supporters attacked for no reason.

One of the worst incidents involved Jamie O’Hagan from Cumbernauld who suffered a broken foot after being run over by a police van around Dam Square.

O’Hagan, a veteran of Celtic trips abroad for almost 30 years, was interviewed by a crew from Nederland 1 for their Een Vandaag current affairs programme   bringing the savagery of their own police force into the home of Dutch viewers.

Jeanette Findlay of the Celtic Trust was also interviewed as supporters filed in to put their stories together for an incident that is starting to make big news in Holland.

Television station Een Vandaag sent a report over to Glasgow to speak to those involved as fans provided statements at St Mary’s church today.

After interviewing supporters the Dutch station spoke to MSP Michael McMahon who expressed a number of concerns about the treatment of fans.

“I have spoken with Scottish police who asked how the Dutch police allowed this to occur,” McMahon said. “I think that we as Parliament have a responsibility to investigate and find out what went wrong in Amsterdam. The operation in Amsterdam was different than how we do it.

“The Dutch police have not listened to the information from the Scottish police and that is wrong. Celtic fans don’t have a violent reputation in Europe, they have shown good behaviour so what went wrong in Amsterdam? “

Before Saturday’s home match with Aberdeen a bucket collection will be held to help support Padraig Mullen and Andy Vance who remain in prison in Holland for being Celtic supporters.
