Daily Record backs away from Ibrox attack

Craig Whyte newsThe Daily Record has backed away from challenging Sevco over a claim that ‘the paper is riddled from top to bottom with an anti-Rangers bias.

That accusation on Friday afternoon has gone unchallenged in three editions of the paper since the claims from Ibrox after an article about Dundee’s Scott Gardiner turning down the chief executive’s job.

While their own publication is under attack the Record have concentrated their energies on Peter Lawwell’s Celtic AGM comment about Rory Bremner impersonating Tony Blair.

Lawwell never mentioned anything at Ibrox but reports of his comment prompted a Sevco statement warning that the remark will be taken up by the football authorities.

That exchange prompted a near 1,000 word opinion piece in today’s Record which likened Lawwell’s comment to those of Charles Green before he quit the frontline at Ibrox with more than £1m and a significant number of shares bought for one penny each at the same time as his business partners Ally McCoist and Imran Ahmad invested in the club.

Why the Daily Record hasn’t defended itself in the face of an attack from the Third Division champions is hard to understand.

The club could hardly have been any clearer in their contempt for the newspaper with the tone similar to that used by Jim Traynor who quit the Record less than a year ago to take up the role of director of communications at Ibrox.

Friday’s attack made a number of accusations about the newspaper which is usually quick to defend itself but a strange silence has followed since Friday’s attack.

Whether the Record is holding fire ahead of the potentially fatal BDO report into the liquidation of the old club remains to be seen with the shadow of Craig Whyte and Sevco 5088 never far away.

The Daily Rectum will soon be going the way of dead Rangers and Sevco f.c and will be a compost heap within a few years.

Aye, but they’ll come back in the local press league as The Daily International Record as the same club.

I hope you have managed to extract your tongue from your cheek. Thank God for Andrex. My piles would be louping at the thought of the alternative.

    How ironic,anti-rangers bias,in the DAILY
    RANGER God forbid.
on closer inspection it is not as it.seems.they really do love the boys in blue.but they developed a split personality
(like goram) in who to support in the in-fighting.
In other words sevco are complaining, as blueboy jackson supports the takeover rebels.
sevco still like the anti-Celtic attacks, today PL is getting, from blueboy.
so the sycophantic pandering to all things blue, has not altered in any way.

I wonder if this fuss merits the time given.Cragie bhoy will be laughing up his sleeve, where incidently,he has the DEEDS
for the BIG HOOSE.and the old boy that muttered those profound words, will get his wish afterall :
    SOCIAL HOUSING AT IBROKES…….
    SANCTUARY ANYBODY ???

  • seaney67 says:

Apparently they emailed who ever it is today that’s running sevco and stated lubricant not required we’ll take what you give us. Deserve each other.

I have not bought a daily ranger for at least 15 years. I would urge ALL celtic fans to stop buying it NOW.
There is an old saying “Keep your friends close, but keep your enemy’s even closer”. If you feel the need to see what they are writing then download their free app to keep an eye on them.
Usually I take what they write with a pinch of salt, but this is one of those times where its making my blood boil.
The venom of their written and oral (Hugh Keevans) word against Peter Lawell is incomprehensible.
The evidence. This paper has BACKED every spiv and fly by night that has entered the MIDDIN. And when they have been found out they suddenly fall silent.
Peter Lawell is one of the most charismatic sought after sports businessmen in the game. His record with our club is nothing short of brilliant and he conducts himself with the upmost dignity, Over the passed two years of utter turmoil across the city he has NOT jumped in with the rest of us hammering the hun at every opportunity instead at OUR AGM he makes a little quip to a question that he was asked and the media are now basically comparing him to chuckles Green.
Lets unite against this rag and hurt them where it hurts most, in the pocket.
    Hail hail

hi jimbo, like you ive not bought the rectum in about 15 years and would urge all celtic minded people to stop buying it now..the lies they print ie about the time in newcastle so guys stop NOW. lets see the returns pacels get bigger and bigger by the day.. i dont buy the hun either or any other rag for that matter..

      • Jimbo102 says:

        James,
Totally agree, the days of the tabloids should be well and truly numbered. Remember the boy Alex Thompson from channel 4 came to our city and found out more about the rancid lot in 5 days than our fish n chip wrapper hacks found out (or where prepared to say) in 10 years.
Like you I would urge all fellow fans don’t gripe about their articles at the same time buying their rag.
One of their chief mouthpieces keeps banging on about how everything on blogs and social websites is trash. We’ll to him I’d just say the truth is the real power and your medium is well and truly numbered.
DONT BUY REDTOPS! Donate the couple of bob to charity and use the internet for your news. Hail hail

          Jimbo,

          I don’t buy the 2 Hun rags.
Did you know Alex Thomson was THREATENED and called TIMMY THOMSON by a certain mark guidi ?.
guidi is meant to be a.Tim.nonsense.

You lot are so childish its time you grew up ally mccoist is brilliant and no one at ibrox deserves this so leave them alone your own club is far from perfect is it.

SUE IS AZOMBIE, SHOW SOME UNDERSTANDING.

  • Andybhoy says:

The Daily Record are anti-Sevco, aye right! The Record sports writers have undeniably aligned themselves with Jim McColl, Paul Murray and Dave King etc in their attempted Ibrox coup and the opinion pieces from the likes of Jackson and co. regarding the sevco baord alongside the platform they provide McColl, Murray and King to publicly attack the current inhabitants of the Ibrox boardroom is without doubt designed to rally support for a takeover.

The Ibrox board are trying to push back by playing the anti-Sevco card because they know fine well that the ‘everyone is against us’ rhetoric is lapped up en masse by the blue hordes and they think it will strengthen their position against the Record and McColl’s group.

There is not a hint of anti-Sevco bias from the Daily Record, all there is is an Ibrox civil war raging and Jackson and his cronies don’t just have their feet firmly in the McColl, Murray and King camp they are fighting on the front line by pushing their agenda.

The fact the Record has not retaliated to the Sevco statement yet is most likely because they would have to put the Lawell comment to the back burner to do so, and apart from it being an ideal excuse for Jackson and his cronies to berate and pontificate to Celtic about how we should conduct ourselves they know fine well that the only thing that plays better to a rabid Ibrox audience than an anti-Sevco board story is one in which Celtic is the villain.

Jackson and his fellow sports hacks at the Record are pathetic hypocrites with zero integrity. They like to portray themselves as brave bastions of truth who are just telling it like it is but are in fact a band of manipulative hacks who will sensationalise non events and twist the truth out of all recognition to suit whatever agenda they are pushing, whether it be by a pompous overreaction to a throw away comment or that of a deliberate blurring of the lines to aid their favoured Ibrox masters.

No amount of hot air emanating from the cheap seats down Govan way can make the bills disappear. They are losing money hand over fist and those who have yet to walk away KNOW it is only a matter of time before they go under.

The Daily Record like the Govan Blue Sox are irrelevant to Scotland’s Champions, we should be seeking to compare ourselves to other clubs within Europe and how they achieve such success. Don’t get dragged down to the dross they are not worthy of our time.
