Ally McCoist has revealed that his salary cut has still to be implemented.
The £850,000-a-year Sevco boss first indicated in October that he was willing to take a cut on his massive salary with some reports claiming that it would be reduced by 50%.
Last weekend it was reported that the reduction had been agreed but crucially, on Friday, McCoist revealed that he had still to sign the new contract.
After being questioned about the proposed 15% pay cut that the players rejected McCoist was asked when his pay cut was effective from.
“As soon as the contract is put in front of me I’ll sign it,” he replied. “The deal is done, it’s agreed, as soon as the contract is put in front of me I’ll do it.”
The former Question of Sport skipper has increasingly found himself in the firing line as the reality finally dawns that the new club is following it’s predecessor in the road to ruin.
While Rangers (IL) went into liquidation for withholding National Insurance and Income Tax payments from HMRC it seems Sevco are also outspending with outgoings vastly in excess of income.
A brutal round of cost cutting is required to starve off administration which is likely to see the playing squad decimated.
McCoist brought in nine new stars in September of 2013 and now realises that just five months later that those contracts are a massive burden to the survival of the club.
He explained: “Maybe I had it totally wrong but with the player budget coming down, I was looking at the season tickets, working out the costs – I’m doing it on the back of a fag packet obviously – and thinking, ‘It kind of fits.’
“We also had a lot of money in from an IPO as well as having had two amounts of season ticket money in – but I was obviously wrong.
“Did someone tell me I had the financial where-with-all to sign players? Absolutely. I just went about my business.
“I was wanting to bolster the squad and that’s what I did. No one said it was a
problem. No one said stop.”
