Watch Kris Commons sink Motherwell

Kris Commons newsAs he left the post match media conference after scoring twice against Motherwell Kris Commons smiled and said: “See you on Friday.”

The hoops hero is in the form of his life and the biggest story in Scottish football as Celtic stride forward on route to their third consecutive title.

Winning the championship governed by a third body will be a footnote on a season dominated by the goals, ability and growing confidence of the former Derby County midfielder.

If there was a poll today for the Player of the Year Commons would be the runaway winner with yesterday’s double taking his tally for the season to 21 with 13 of those coming in the last two months.

On Thursday Commons had met the media to discuss his Player of the Month award for December, with yesterday’s goals taking his total for 2014 to four it’ll take an exceptional effort to deny him the January award.

“It’s another two goals and he’s up to 19 now, which, for a guy who is not a natural centre forward, it’s a wonderful contribution,” Neil Lennon, the December Manager of the Month, said.

“He’s the consummate professional and really enjoying his football at the minute. He’s just really instrumental in the way we want to play.

“He’ll be a contender for player of the year – but Virgil van Dijk has had a wonderful season along with Scot t Brown who has been so consistent.

“Had James Forrest been fit earlier in the season I think he’d also have been a contender given the way he’s playing. He gives is us such a thrilling dimension with the way he plays.”

Forrest was a revelation yesterday with his pace terrifying the Motherwell defence as he cut inside shaping up to go left or right. If he needs any guidance on how to develop his game he could do worse than model his game on Commons.

A future manager in the making?

      Based on what?

      • derkdiggler77 says:

Based on his obvious intelligence, game awareness & love of the club. Saying that, he’s already said this week that he’s not sure if he’s interested in getting into management in the future.

Pity Stokesy could not have timed his tackle a little better and broke Lashley’s ankle.

  • KEIGHLEY BHOY says:

Commons truly is a gifted player and our most intelligent attacking option all round, the worrying thing is god forbid he gets injured because we have nobody with his vision and ability to fill that position, time for the center forwards to start earning their crust, mind you would help if lenny gave some of them some game time. Life in TIMLAND is brilliant tho without the govan goat fiddlers robbing every club in Scotland, hail hail, TIK TOK TIK TOK.
