A further twist has emerged today over Scott Bain’s Celtic status.

It is very widely known that Joe Hart’s will retire at the end of this month when his three year contract expires but the status of Bain has been something of a mystery.

Signed by Brendan Rodgers in an emergency in January 2018, he made a winning debut at Ibrox, signed a permanent deal and has mainly been a trusted second choice under three different manager.

There has been no suggestion that the former Dundee keeper could step up as Hart’s replacement, but equally there has been no reporting that Celtic are in the market for two goalkeepers in the summer.

Today The Sun reported on Celtic’s interest in Viljami Sinisalo of Aston Villa, tucked away in the report they mention:

Scott Bain’s contract at Parkhead is also due to expire this summer and Benjamin Siegrist’s time at the club is likely to be up.

It’s probable the Hoops keep at least one of them around given Hart’s impending departure, otherwise it would leave youngsters Tobi Oluwayemi and Josh Clarke as the next in line.

In contrast to that, on May 2023 Stephen McGowan of the Daily Mail reported:

CELTIC goalkeeper Scott Bain has put pen to paper on a three-year contract extension.

Understudy to Joe Hart, the 31-year-old was under contract at Parkhead until next summer.

Bain was tipped to leave the club after the signing of Benjamin Siegrist last summer, but the Swiss keeper has endured a difficult first season with injuries.

Now the three-times-capped Scotland keeper has done enough to convince Ange Postecoglou he deserves a new deal.

Signed from Dundee by Brendan Rodgers in 2018, Bain has made 74 appearances for the Parkhead club.

That claim seemed to surface at an evening for Scott Brown held at The Hydro last year, there was no announcement from the club, it seems that Ange Postecoglou wasn’t asked about the new contract.

Bain started one SPFL match last season and one this term, at the age of 32 he should be an attractive free agent in the summer.

Almost two years after joining Celtic Siegrist has still to play in an SPFL match with Instagram appearing to be his biggest passion.

    Still looking for a keeper?
Joe was always a temporary appointment, at his age!
So, look forward to the second half of find a keeper!
It could not be any worse than the first half!

Personally believe that we will be looking for 2 keepers in the summer, or should be imo?

Could understand Bain getting the no2 keeper role as better with the ball at his feet, especially as big Ben is fairly brutal when it comes to trying to play out from the back imo?

However still don’t feel comfortable with Bain as a no2 keeper either and luckily didn’t have to depend upon him over the last few seasons thankfully?

Don’t believe that we will need Bain for making up the 8 with the homegrown rule for CL football next season imo?

If that should be the case, then don’t see what is the point of still keeping hold of Bain or big Ben either imo?

Getting an experienced and established keeper in as a 1st choice and a younger keeper with potential as a no2 keeper would be my preferred option in the keeper position?

Especially as we look some way off still from developing a keeper by the looks of things to take a place within a 25man squad imo?

Why has seigerest never had chance my memory of him at Dundee utd was of him being a good quality keeper, there must have been something behind scenes that stopped Ange from giving the guy his chance , now he,LL be going with never having been given chance, we have a habit of bringing players in who never get a run in the team , if they get chance (one) and don’t perform they get slated ,if u leave tools in shed for long time ,they ain,t going to work the same right away . Bring players in then fckn play them
