Raith Rovers newsGutted Ally McCoist has vowed to take Sevco’s Ramsden’s Cup Final defeat on the chin and fight on as manager of the cash strapped Ibrox side.

A blunder by Cameron Bell who failed to hold a shot from Greig Spence allowed Partick Thistle reject John Baird to score the only goal of the match in the 117th minute to send McCoist to his ninth cup defeat in 32 months.

Despite the pain of the defeat the popular former Question of Sport skipper took some comfort from the fact that the defeat came in extra-time maintaining his side’s unbeaten record for the season over 90 minutes.

“That’s up there with all the major disappointments that I’ve had, but it’s not just about me,” he stated after his players had collected their Ramsden Cup runners-up medals. “It’s about the team and the club and the players, all of us together. So it’s a big disappointment and we need to take it on the chin.

“We don’t have time to feel sorry for ourselves. That’s the one thing we can’t do. We’ve got a big game to look forward to on Saturday

“That was the first time we haven’t scored this season in a game and it’s our second defeat, albeit both of them have been in extra time.”

Lee Wallace picked up a thigh strain at Easter Road with Nicky Law, Nicky Clark, Ian Black and Jon Daly battling through the pain barrier to start the match.

Asked about the injury to former Nottingham Forest target Waldo McCoist admitted: “He’s toiling but the boys were a bit patched up today to be fair to the two Nickys, big Daly and Ian Black.

“They didn’t train at all last week so to be fair to them they’ve put in a good effort today as in normal circumstances they probably wouldn’t have been match fit.

“We have one or two wee kicks from today but I would say Wallace would be the biggest problem for next week. We’ll see how Black, Daly and the two Nickys are tomorrow as well.”
