Joe ThomsonAidan Nesbitt was the Celtic hero as the young hoops beat Sevco 1-0 to lift the Glasgow Cup.

The young hoops had lost out in each of the last two seasons but never looked in danger of missing out as they found an extra gear after the break.

Inspired by skipper Joe Thomson, Celtic dominated the midfield with Regan Hendry and Mark Hill putting in outstanding performances.

It was a nervy start from both side’s as they struggled to cope with the occasion and their first experience of the pitch.

The best chance of the first half came in the 27th minute when a snap shot from Aidan McIlduff hit the post with the Sevco keeper motionless.

After the break it was virtually one way traffic to the Sevco goal with ‘keeper Robby McCrorie pulling of a couple of great saves before Lafferty made the breakthrough.

Six minutes after the restart a corner on the left from Mark Hill bounced off the foot of Kieran Tierney and into the arms of McCrory.

Midway through the second period McCrory spilled a shot from substitute Calvin Miller but Lafferty found the side netting with the rebound.

Just as it was looking that a goal would never come the hoops went ahead in the 73rd minute when Lafferty drilled a low shot across the keeper into the net from 15 yards out after his initial effort was blocked.

Sevco offered little threat to Colin McCabe’s goal as the young hoops held on comfortably for a well deserved triumph.
