Mixed up Alex McLeish is backing Dave King’s rebels at the same time as he is being given the red carpet treatment at Ibrox!
The former Birmingham City and Nottingham Forest manager was back in town yesterday to promote Tesco Bank’s coaching schemes from Ibrox.
Speaking to the Sevco website McLeish was singing the praises of Ally McCoist and the incredible job he has done winning back to back titles on route to competing in the 2017 Champions League.
During his media commitments McLeish was asked about the current civil war at Ibrox and without knowing too much about Mr King the former Scotland boss is hoping that the man, described as a glib and shameless liar by a South African judge, is about to takeover the ailing club.
“I can only take Dave King at face value, what I’ve read in the papers and what he’s saying,” McLeish explained. “We have to trust that, the fans have to trust that. It sounds as though there is a bit of responsibility being handed to the fans and you know they will go to war to save the club.
“They’ll do that because they see this place (Ibrox) being saved. That’s the bottom line. I think every Rangers fan would want that.
“Yes, I have concerns that Rangers wouldn’t own Ibrox. Maybe people will say ‘Big yin, you don’t know what the finances are all about’ and they might think it’s better it’s not owned, it might keep the costs down or whatever.
“The training ground as well, there was a massive investment in that a few years ago. If you were to lose assets like that, it would scare me. For me, and maybe I’m just talking like a traditionalist here, it would be unthinkable that the club didn’t own Ibrox.”
Mr King was a director of Rangers (IL) when McLeish was given an EBT of £1.7m according to the BBC.
Yesterday the Sevco board issued a statement warning season-ticket holders of the danger to the club created by King’s Ibrox1972 company which is a vehivle looking for fans to pledge season ticket money to.
