Wakaso MubarekCeltic are moving in on a deal to sign Wakaso Mubarek on loan from Rubin Kazan.

The 24-year-old moved to the Russian side a year ago from Espanyol after starting his top flight career with Vilareal. During the summer he a member of Ghana’s World Cup squad.

Wakaso, he is known by his first name, is a pacy left winger and would require a work permit to play for Celtic. It’s unlikely that he would gain clearance to be registered with UEFA in time to play against Maribor on Wednesday night.

Rubin Kasan paid €8m for Wakaso a year ago but are prepared to let him go with Celtic monitoring his situation throughout the summer.

After taking over from Neil Lennon Ronny Deila identified the need to add width to his squad with Mubarek fitting the bill.

Last week Celtic brought in Alexsander Tonev on loan from Aston Villa but the Bulgarian was absent from Deila’s squad that met St Johnstone and Dundee United.

Celtic can still bring in one wildcard signing for the Champions League ties against Maribor but the paperwork will need to be completed and registered with UEFA by 11pm CPT on Monday.

As well as attempting to bring in a new signing tomorrow Celtic will also hear from the CAS in Switzerland whether their tie with Maribor goes ahead.

Despite having their appeal to UEFA to ‘let football win’ while clearly breaching the rules Legia Warsaw have taken their ‘case’ to the CAS in Switzerland.

An announcement is expected at 5pm tomorrow with Celtic scheduled to fly out to Slovenia on Tuesday morning.
