Ally McCoist has admitted that it’s ‘sad times at Ibrox’.
The fun loving Sevco boss was speaking after it was revealed that the club had cancelled a Christmas party for non-playing members of staff.
After the recent round of redundancies- which saw the entire marketing department dismissed- there are less than 100 non-playing employees with further redundancies expected to help fund McCoist’s January warchest.
Yesterday chairman David Somers revealed that less than 20,000 fans attended last week’s 1-0 win over Cowdenbeath with the staff Christmas party the latest sign of a cash crisis at the club.
Being absolutely honest, in his usual style, the £800,000-a-year manager said: “I’m disappointment but you have to be honest and look at it and say with the redundancies that have been made recently at the football club I’m not sure that a lot of the staff would really be in the mood for partying.
“I think its a very, it’s sad times at the football club when people are losing their job and I’m not sure that having a party would be the right thing.”
As well as the internal redundancies at the club it has been confirmed that the club stores at Glasgow Airport and in Belfast city centre are to close with combined losses of £600,000 over a year.
The stores were opened in a blaze of glory as part of Charles Green’s plans to engage with the club’s 500,000,000 worldwide fanbase but have failed to deliver the profits anticipated.
