Ronny DeilaRonny Deila has vowed that he will strengthen the Celtic squad during the January transfer window.

After six months in the job the Norwegian has four trophies to play for in the new year despite a turbulent start to his Celtic career.

Bids are expected in January for Kris Commons and Virgil van Dijk but Deila is intent on adding to his squad.

“We want to keep every player, we don’t need to sell anyone,” he stated ahead of tonight’s match with Dinamo Zagreb. “We want to build the best team we can and the January transfer window will see us strengthen rather than weaken.

“We will see what possibilities there are. We always look at the players and think of what is best for the future of the club and the right way to go.”

Anthony Stokes has been reported as a signing target for Cardiff City but Deila is determined to keep on working with the Irishman.

The Celtic boss said: “Anthony has been good but he is not there yet. He needs to improve physically so he can run even more and get even sharper.

“He is an important player because he is scoring goals for us. He is a very intelligent player.

“Stokesy knows how to play and he can link up well with the other players as well. With the way we want to play there needs to be a lot of sprints.

“Anthony needs to get his fitness up for the highest level but his attitude is very good. Every player has areas where they can improve. We’ve improved a lot but some of the players aren’t as fit as they can be at international level.”
