gazeboHeartbroken Ibrox legend Ian Ferguson has pleaded for fans not to be treated as idiots.

The harsh truths of living within their means has seen supporters quit Ibrox in their droves with Ferguson, who enjoyed the benefits of a team funded by generous Bank of Scotland overdrafts on the never never, watching on from afar.

Alloa, Hearts, Queen of the South, Hibs, Celtic and Raith Rovers have all beaten Sevco during the winter of discontent with Ally McCoist put on gardening leave and Kenny McDowall handing in his notice shortly after being put in charge.

Hibs return to Ibrox tomorrow night expecting to inflict more damage on the Ibrox side with Ferguson fearing more hurt as the club teeters towards administration and further embarrassment on the park.

“It’s really sad, it breaks my heart sitting over here and seeing what’s going on,’ he told the Daily Mail from Australia where he hosted a roadshow meeting with Charles Green just over two years ago. “It actually makes it more frustrating when you are so far away.

“We just want our club back and for it to be in good hands, at this moment in time, it’s not in good hands.

“Every single day, you look online and it’s story after story after story — each one more negative than the last.

“You just wonder what these guys (in the boardroom) are doing. Don’t treat the Rangers fans like idiots because that’s one thing they are not. They know the game and what’s going on here. They won’t stand for mediocre people in the club.”

Looking at the recent League Cup defeat to Celtic he admitted: “It was heartbreaking to see a Rangers team lose so easily.

“Don’t make excuses. I’ve heard the boy Ian Black making plenty about the referee bottling it and not sending Brown off. He got intimidated, bullied and his backside kicked. It’s as simple as that.

“Then I see someone else ( Airdy) saying they wanted to play Celtic in the Scottish Cup because they wanted another crack at them.

“He should have been worrying about beating Raith Rovers first. There are absolutely no excuses for what they’ve been turning in on the park.”
