Sevco have banned the Daily Record.

The move came tonight with the second highest selling daily newspaper in Scotland making the announcement on their website. Very quickly the link to the article crashed.

Announcing the ban the statement read: “THE Daily Record has tonight been BANNED by the Rangers board.

“Our paper was this evening sent an email and fax by under-fire chief executive Derek Llambias that told us we are not welcome at Ibrox or Murray Park for matches and press conferences.

“The message failed to detail any reasons for the move that has echoes of our sister paper the Chronicle being banned from Newcastle United.

“Llambias wrote: “Following recent reporting by your journalists in the Daily Record, I am writing to inform you that with immediate effect the Daily Record newspaper will banned from attending all Rangers press conferences and games at Ibrox Stadium and Murray Park.”

“Despite today’s ban, we will continue to write the truth. Fans will still be able to read about their team – despite us not being welcome.

“We will continue to report the ongoing crisis on and off the park without fear or favour.”

Under the ownership of David Murray and with James Traynor calling the shots at the Record the relationship was especially close with little questioning of Murray’s moonbeams.

That continued as Murray prepared to sell ‘Scotland second most important institution’ to Craig Whyte with the businessman from Motherwell portrayed as a billionaire despite all the evidence painting a very different story.

Whyte’s £1 purchase of the club was treated as a triumph for Murray as a glorious new chapter opened for the club- with administration and liquidation following barely a year later.

Keeping tabs on the recent runners and riders it has been difficult to know who’s who with the Record backing the prospect of Real Rangers men with the good of the club at heart in charge.

The first test of the ban will be at Thursday’s pre-match media conference for the home match with Hibs the following night.
