Dave King Queen of the South spoiled the King’s coronation by drawing 1-1 at Ibrox tonight.

A bumper crowd of 35,018 responded to the rallying cry- 12,000 paying at the gate- to watch the clash between the two Championship play-off rivals.

The directors box housed John Greig and Walter Smith alongside the newly blazered Paul Murray, John Gilligan and Chris Graham alongside the main man Dave King who was once described as a glib and shameless liar by a South African judge.

Despite the euphoria of Friday’s EGM vote for regime change the fans inside Ibrox were greeted by wall-to-wall Sports Direct advertising and the less than thrilling news that Jon Daly had replaced Kris Boyd in Kenny McDowall’s side.

The visitors, trying to bounce back from their Scottish Cup defeat from Falkirk on Friday, included former Celt’s Lewis Kidd and Mikey Miller in midfield and quickly imposed their passing game on the bemused home side.

After a goal-less first half that saw the home fans boo their heroes off the pitch the second period began in similarly uninspiring style.

On loan Newcastle United midfielder Haris Vuckic looked like giving Sevco a rare win when he netted in the 77th minute but nine minutes later Queens equalised when Aidan Smith, on the park for five minutes, netted against former Queens keeper Lee Robinson.

It would have been a travesty if we hadn’t taken anything from the game,” Queens boss Jamie Fowler said. “We had Rangers on the ropes at times in the first half.

Our aim is to be in the top four, we’ve got a big game against Raith Rovers to look forward to on Saturday.”

The draw takes Sevco to two points behind Hibs, with a game in hand at home to Hearts, with McDowall’s side travelling to Easter Road on March 22.

Hearts boss Robbie Nielson was in the directors box knowing that his side are on course to be crowned as champions ahead of their trip to Ibrox on Easter Saturday.
