stokes league cupAnthony Stokes returned to top form as Celtic clinched the first trophy of the season with a 2-0 win over Dundee United in the League Cup Final.

The Irishman had been substituted in Celtic’s two previous matches but caused United all sorts of bother down the left flank in tandem with Emilio Izaguirre.

Today’s win completed his domestic medal collection but after celebrating in the dressing room the striker turned midfielder has his thoughts on more silverware.

Stokes crossed the ball for Kris Commons to open the scoring with the former Derby County man delivering on the big occasion just as he had in the semi-final against Sevco.

James Forrest tied the match up in the 79th minute with hoops boss Ronnie Deila pleased to pick up his first trophy since arriving in Scotland.

We have talked about this (treble) many times, it is a dream,” the Norwegian said.

“It is so tough to do it but it is possible, the dream is still alive and I am happy.

“Now we have one trophy and on Wednesday we have to be back again to make another cup, so it is going quick in this job.

“It is a great feeling. It is good to get a good start when you are a manager at a big club like Celtic.

“This was the first trophy we could win and we did it. You get the appetite and you want more.

“I am proud of the boys. I think we did a professional job so we should really enjoy this moment.”
