John GuidettiThe SFA have backed off from suspending John Guidetti for making comment of an offensive nature.

The Super Swede appeared before the SFA today charged with singing an offensive song which made reference to ‘the h*ns are deid’ and could have been suspended for 2,4,6 or 8 matches.

Rather than suspend Guidetti the striker has been censured and is free to play in Celtic’s remaining SPFL matches.

Celtic won’t be commenting on the matter but did issue a statement announcing their surprise and disappointment when the charge was first made.

With numerous issues of genuine offensive behaviour going unpunished the decision to charge Guidetti for comments on Dutch telly seemed ridiculous.

As recently as February thousands of supporters sang about their hatred of catholic’s during a match broadcast live on terrestrial television without any comment from the SPFL, SFA or their own club.

Guidetti joined Celtic on loan from Manchester City during the summer transfer window but his registration was delayed by the SPFL meaning that he was unable to play in the Europa League although his international transfer document was accepted.

Despite that set back Guidetti made a great start to his Celtic career scoring 11 goals before the end of November.

That prompted speculation that other clubs were looking to sign the 22-year-old on a free transfer at the end of the season with Feyenoord strongly linked with a move for the striker.

Ronny Deila has been diplomatic about signing Guidetti but it seems likely that he will leave Celtic at the end of his loan spell with the home match against Inverness Caley Thistle certain to be his last appearance in a Celtic shirt.
