Brown trophyBitter Kenny Shiels has claimed that his granny could have won the Premiership for Celtic!

The SFA coach made the claim in the Scottish Sun a year after guiding Morton to relegation- finishing the season with a 10-2 defeat away to Hamilton Accies.

Shiels has been a regular critic of all things Celtic and was once censured for claiming that the four times champions were a monster.

His latest rant came in an article claiming that Scottish clubs are overlooking older mangers, the Irishman is 59-years-of-age, with 39-year-old Ronny Deila the thinly disguised target for his anger.

“My granny could have won the league with Celtic,” claimed the man who signed 17 stone Garry O’Connor to save Morton from relegation. “I don’t think you can say Deila’s been successful yet. If you look at it realistically, Celtic were 1/100 to win the league before a ball was kicked, and he’s achieved that.

“Ronny has the best squad of players, and by far the biggest budget in the country so he really should have won the Treble.

“With the advantages they have, Celtic should win everything. but Ronny is 39. Maybe if he’d been 49, with more experience, he could have closed out the Scottish Cup.”

Maybe if Steven McLean, Alan Muir or Frank Connor had been doing their job properly Deila would have a Scottish Cup Final to look forward to.

Maybe if 50 something Ally McCoist had picked Dean Shiels on a regular basis Sevco would have been 1/100 to win the Championship and Petrofac Cup.

Maybe if Shiels was a better manager he wouldn’t be coaching kids at the SFA’s Forth Valley academy.

The Irishman added: “Being honest, the Treble should be nailed on for Celtic. People would have been backing them to do that last summer and understandably so, when you consider that Hearts, Hibs and Rangers aren’t even in the top division.”

Almost every Celtic supporter knows how rare a domestic treble success is, despite winning nine consecutive titles, without a limitless overdraft from the soon to be nationalised Bank Of Scotland, Jock Stein ‘only’ won two trebles despite reaching the semi-final’s of the European Cup four times.

As young Deila prepares to accept the SPFL Premiership trophy maybe Shiels should take a closer look at his own failings rather than rambling on about the men that win trophies fairly and squarely.

In April 2013 Neil Lennon described Shiels as the David Bent of the SPL after another rant about Celtic.
