Rogne ThomasThere’s something about the Scandinavian air that appeals to Thomas Rogne.

The defender quit Celtic in July 2013 for Wigan Athletic but any thoughts of a fresh start at the Lancashire club failed to materialise.

After a dozen outings in his first season with Wigan, Rogne made just one appearance, in the League Cup defeat at Burton Albion in August, for the Latics in the 2014/15 season and was released from his contract in March.

In next to no time he signed for IFK Gothenburg and has played the full 90 minutes in 11 of their 13 matches this season.

Not only is he getting a game he is contributing to the league leaders with IFK five points clear of Elfsborg after 13 matches with a highly impressive goal difference of 19 for and just 5 against.

Jorgen Lennartsson is managing IFK but although he had a stint at Stabaek it was after Rogne had left for Celtic.

Rogne was given his chance under Tony Mowbray and hinted at greatness only to be let down by a succession of muscle injuries that prevented him from fulfilling the promise that had attracted Celtic in the first place.

In his final season at Celtic Rogne made 13 appearances before leaving on a Bosman deal to join Wigan who were managed at that time by Owen Coyle.

Having had his career put on hold for around four seasons maintaining a regular game for IFK will be his immediate goal- as well as maintaining fitness.

Should he maintain that the defender who will be 25 later this month is likely to find himself again in demand.
