After putting in a full days work at Ibrox on Tuesday Mark Warburton has jetted out to the u-21 European Championships in the Czech Republic.
While the gullible may look on it as a scouting mission to bring the best young talent on the continent to the Scottish Championship the reality is somewhat different.
Despite being lauded as the greatest emerging coaching talent in the game Warby is in the Czech Republic as part of his UEFA coaching licence.
With just over five weeks to go until the first round of the Petrofac Challenge the new man in charge of Sevco will be out the loop dealing from the Czech Republic as he attempts to cobble together a squad capable of pushing for promotion.
Discussing the trip with the London Evening Standard earlier this month Warby explained: “I am looking forward to continuing my education, that is what the course is about. We will watch a number of games out there and there are a lot of people you can learn from and pick their brains.
“We get back from there on June 24, then if discussions (at Ibrox) go any further then very good. If they do not, then you have to put head down and hope opportunities come up.”
While mobile communications make life easier the 52-year-old will have his hands full as he attempts his course work while dealing with players, agents while attempting to unhinge Dave King’s transfer war-chest.
Season ticket money should cover the June payroll but with Mike Ashley looking for repayment of his £5m loan it’s highly unlikely that Warby will be going on a spending spree.
Three days after apparently having a bid for Rob Kiernan accepted by Wigan the sought after defender has still to visit Murray Park and sign a deal.
With Mr King and his fellow directors going public about refusing to pay back the £5m loan to Sports Direct it’s likely that any transfer fees will have to be paid up front- putting further stress on the company’s fragile finances.
