malmoSince the draw was made for the play-off round of the Champions League most Celtic fans have been trying to work it just which Malmo side will visit Celtic Park on August 19.

Will it be the side trailing in sixth place in the Swedish league or the team that trashed Salzburg 3-0 to overturn a 2-0 deficit from the first leg in Austria.

As ever the answer lies somewhere in between with Wednesday’s turnaround the outstanding result of the season for Age Hareide’s side.

Without delving too far into Craig Brown territory the result from the return leg tells an entirely different tale to the match statistics.

With eight attempts on goal Malmo scored three times, with 25 attempts on goal recorded by UEFA the Austrian champions failed to make one of those chances count.

After losing out to the Swedes for the second season running Salzburg manager Peter Zeidler was at a loss to explain his side’s Champions League exit.

“The disappointment is huge, especially after this match,” he said straight after the final whistle. “We were more dangerous throughout the match, especially in the second half.

“They were efficient, we did not take our chances. Their goals came after horrendous mistake. We behaved like amateurs in the defensive but had so many chances that it is not even possible to count.”

Tomorrow afternoon Malmo are at home to leaders IFK Gothenburg looking to claw back the seven point gap between the two clubs. Midfielders Markus Rosenberg and Enoch Adu are suspended for the first leg in Glasgow.

Let’s sell out Celtic park and blow them away. There’s not a better atmosphere anywhere on the planet, than Celtic park on a champions league night.

I watched most of their game. Malmo are a decent side but Salzburg did miss a whole host of chances, if one went in it was game over. They also defended very poorly, the 3rd goal in particular was schoolboy defending. Malmo will be without 2 key players for their trip to Glasgow and we need to score a couple but most of all I think if we keep a clean sheet at home and score in Sweden we will do it

Interesting to watch this. Salzburg lost very poor goals, so it doesn’t look like Malmo are world beaters after all. Give them respect but no need to fear them, they’re beatable.

We will beat them 4 nil at Celtic park.
