YouTubeElgin goalkeeper Mark Hurst conceded one of the worst goals of the season when his side visited Queens Park last week.

The visitors looked dead and buried as they trailed 2-0 but one time Celtic midfielder Connor McLaren pulled a goal back five minutes after Queens forward Chris Duggan had been sent off.

Sencing the chance to salvage something from the game Elgin were anxious to get the ball into the Queen’s half.

Picking up the story the Queens Park website reported: “Queen’s survived and the game entered the last 10 minutes with the lead intact.

And they were gifted a third goal seconds later with a candidate for howler of the season. Cooper shied the ball gently back to Hurst who tried to control it on his left peg before clearing. The keeper got it all wrong and the ball nicked off his ankle and trundled towards the goal. Like a rabbit caught in the headlights, Hurst failed to react and the ball tricked ever so slowly into the empty net to put Queen’s 3-1 ahead.”

Unfortunately for the keeper, on loan from St Johnstone and a member of the Scotland u-21 squad, the moment was captured by the television stations of each club.

Young Hurst had better luck yesterday as he helped Elgin to a 1-1 draw away to league leaders Annan Athletic who had former Celt Jordan Hart in goals.

Despite the defeat at Hampden Elgin are sitting in a play off place with just three points between the top six clubs.
