celtic hjk helsinkiCeltic will face the Puskas Academy in the second round of the UEFA Youth League.

The Hungarian champions demolished Apoel of Cyprus 6-1 tonight to go through on an 8-3 aggregate with Celtic qualifying on a 6-1 aggregate against HJK Helsinki.

Celtic are involved in the Champions route of the competition which also involves the teams playing in the Champions League with Celtic qualifying after winning the u-17 league last season with the UEFA Youth League involving u-18 teams.

Thirty-two champion clubs are competing in two rounds of knock out football to provide eight teams for the next phase where they will be drawn at home to meet a runners-up from the Champions League group phase.

The winners of those eight ties will then go into the last sixteen, against the group winners from the Champions League section, which will be one off matches decided on the night to produce four semi-finalists with the semi-final’s and final being staged at UEFA’s HQ in Nyon.

The Champions League section of the tournament has already thrown up some surprise results with Malmo beating Real Madrid 1-0 and drawing 5-5 today with Shakhtar Donetsk.

Earlier today Benfica won 11-1 away to Galatasaray, Manchester United lost 4-0 away to CSKA Moscow with PSG beating Real Madrid 4-1.

Despite having four teams in the Champions League England also has another representative in the competition with Middlesbrough in action tonight attempting to overturn a 5-3 defeat from French champions Reims in the first leg.

The most competitive match tonight was in Amsterdam where Ajax are beat Schalke 04 to go through on a 5-2 aggregate.
