The 28 Scottish victims of the EBT tax con

|

Money in FootballA total of TWENTY-EIGHT Scottish football clubs suffered as a consequence of the tax cheating policy of Rangers.

A table created on the popular Scottish Football Monitor website shows the clubs effected by the EBT years, and also the Discounted Option Scheme that was used to entice Tore Andre Flo and Ronald de Boer to Ibrox.

While Celtic were clearly denied SPL titles and a greater chance of Champions League progress, and pounds, the majority of clubs throughout Scottish football also suffered.

In 2001 Berwick Rangers were knocked out at the third round stage of the Scottish Cup by Alex McLeish’s EBT All Stars. McLeish was also paid through an EBT with Berwick denied a fourth round tie against Hibs.

Ayr United, Motherwell, Queen of the South and Falkirk were among the clubs that lost cup finals to Rangers (IL) but on their route to Hampden there were plenty of others that lost out to the Ibrox club as well as Her Majesty’s Revenue and Customs.

Within days of the verdict of the Big Tax Case coming out the apologists are trying to deflect and muddy the waters.

Alex Rae told Radio Clyde listeners how he would have signed for his boyhood heroes regardless of whether he was offered an EBT, if that was the case Cash for Kids can expect a hefty donation from the former Rangers (IL) midfielder.

‘We won it fairly on the park’ is another favoured line, no doubt about that but who would have been on the park if they weren’t getting thousands stashed away in secret accounts kept quiet from the SFA and HMRC.

Without the promise of an EBT Murray’s outfit would be following the Warburton masterplan of picking up outcasts from Hearts, Wigan and Swindon to face upto Henrik Larsson, Neil Lennon and Bobo Balde.

The idea that Murray would have found the money to pay for the players anyway is equally laughable. Once Bank of Scotland became HBOS things changed significantly for the man who vowed to bring the European Cup back to Glasgow and failed miserably.

After years of being indulged by Gavin Masterton and friends from Edinburgh Murray found the money men from Yorkshire less indulgent. ‘Stopping Celtic because’ wasn’t really a business plan forcing the Edinburgh based blowhard to seek out other sources of funding.

Did Murray have £49m stashed away for a rainy day? The pensioners for the Murray Group would love to know the answer.

For every tenner that Celtic paid their players less than £6 went into their bank accounts with the rest going on Income Tax and National Insurance.

Over at Ibrox when Murray pledged a fiver to a player they got the full amount tucked into that secret account that pornographer Paul Baxendale Walker told the Ibrox supremo about.

Alas for Murray he decided to run EBT’s his way rather than follow guidelines, eventually HMRC got wind of his economical use of funding and the empire closed in.

December 2 is the deadline for an appeal against the Big Tax Case verdict, shortly after that football fans at every tax paying club in the country will be looking for answers from Neil Doncaster and Stewart Regan.

Having pulled off a five card trick in July 2012 their actions will be under greater scrutiny than ever, failing to deliver justice this time around isn’t really an option.

Great article once again Joe ,Yahoo Christmas is coming early .

Joe, I have read a couple of articles recently where you suggest that the huns had the support of BOS finances until the Halifax and BOS merged. This was in 2001, before any EBT’s, do you not mean, when Lloyds TSB took over BOS in 2009-2010?

    • Joe McHugh says:

Dodgy Dave would give Gavin Masterton (a Dunfermline Athletic director) a call and get the overdraft extended anytime he liked.

Halifax were shocked by the state of things and brought the game to a halt. To feed his obsession about beating Celtic and winning the Big Cup he turned to EBT’s, the rest is history #liquidation

Great article. It is amazing the results of their cheating and who it affected
Let’s make sure that we don’t let this fade away.
If there are no appeals then we should pressure the SFA /SPFL into making decisions to strip the cheats and liars of all the Trophies and Titles won during the Murray years.
They should also be reported to UEFA for cheating to enter the Europeans Leagues.

In MON last season and final league game, my mate phoned me to say he’d managed to get tickets for the Motherwell game, in the home end. We went and all know lost the league in the last mins of the game, painful but we’ll take it was feeling, little did a know worse was to come.
We would later find out that the players playing for the huns, where ones they couldn’t afford, and wouldn’t have been there had it not been for EBT scheme. Then the first court ruling saying they where just loans (nothing about paying them back). Then LNS finding them guilty but they can keep their titles, despite a 50 million pound advantage and then gives them a £250,000 fine, which they don’t pay. On hearing the verdict super salary and Co are drinking the bubbly saying JUSTICE.
If justice is to be done then every honour won during these illegal EBT years must be stripped from them.
Since its creation in 2012 Sevco have carried on exactly the same as dead Co 1872, living way outside their means without question, while Livingston get hammered.
Hopefully they’ve shamed Scottish football for the last time, and JUSTICE WILL BE SERVED !

    The never ending story.

  • Aaup says:

They also gained an advantage in Europe, fielding a stronger team than they could really legally afford.

They paid for it in their liquidation, but there should be a posthumous stripping of titles won domestically.

How is there any argument to the contrary?

  • Paddyb says:

Move on. Forget it. Work together. It’s doing nobody any good. Scottish football has suffered enough!!

That’s what you call’ having your cake and eating it’ I think.

They’re either the old club and must accept the continuing punishments that will follow this ruling for the systematic financial doping that went on for a number of years with the compliance of Sir David Murray(not for long), or they accept that they are a three year old club who have never won anything but a 2nd and 3rd Division title, and are not, now answerable to what occurred during the Murray and Ogilvie years

Maybe wrong but was Gavin Masterson, Jim Farry’s understudy when the registration of Cadette wasn’t put through on time and Farry took the blame when in fact it was Masterson who didnt register him.

Again might be wrong but when Lord (the innocent), god love him, Nimmo Smith found them partly guilty and asked for a knowledgable and nutral professional person to advise of an appropriate sanction Was it our Gavin who advised that there was no sporting advantage and a fine (which wouldnt ever be paid) would be suffice Please let us keep our titles lol

AND LASTLY THE GAVIN ADVISED MURRAY HOW TO COMPETE ILLEGALY WITH THE CELTIC WHO PLAYED BY THE RULES AND KEPT TO THEIR VALUES AND WON TITLES WITH PLAYERS WHO THEY COULDNT AFFORD

SPORTING ADVANTAGE? CELTIC V MONTROSE WHY WE PAY BIGGER WAGES AND BONUSES IF THEY COULD AFFORD THE SAME THEY WOULD HAVE FAR BETTER QAULITY OF PLAYERS MAYBE NOT AS GOOD BUT MORE CAPABLE HH

    • Joe McHugh says:

I’m fairly certain that Masterton wasn’t involved with Farrygate.

He did bankroll Murray’s financial fantasies, in business and at Ibrox. He did control the bank accounts of every SPL club except Celtic, when Rangers (IL) needed a player the other club would often get a reminder of their overdraft position…

  • George Roper says:

Look at cycling and athletics cheats ….. they have their medals removed.
UEFA hammer clubs for fielding ineligible players (eg. Legia)……. how can deadco be treated any different?

  • Bill Dyer says:

Celtic denied titles? They didn’t win them because they weren’t good enough. The SFA sanctionef the EBTs at the time. Celtic fans are the worst thing to happen ro Scottish football. They try to find loopholes to make up for their failings, Rangers, Mist recently Legia Warsaw etc. They HAVE MANIPULATED the SFA/SPFL for their own financial gain and TV money but it has backfired. Instead, they have taken Scottish football to its lowest ever level but still the hatred and bitterness continues. This anti British club will not be happt until they finally finish the league. Then, ironically will plead to join the English league.

    • Joe McHugh says:

Some zombie comments are so hilarious they just have to be published.

Fill your boots with Billy Dire or is it Dying, great logic as ever.

I hope you are a season ticket holder and shareholder #watp #inkingwetrust

  • Mike Bhoyle says:

I want Ogilvie, Regan and Doncaster to be nailed every bit as hard as Sevco.
You are supposed to be able to put your trust in the top people who run our game…
    Once again however..
    WE CAN’T.
Its always been a loaded dice…
    Now its time to act.
Get these people exposed and punished accordingly.

  • andybhoy67 says:

  • Phil Ossifer says:

Lets also not forget each and every league game that the EBT’s won, this cost every league club money that is paid out for league position at the end of each season.
