Pat Nevin is facing an expensive damages action from Cesc Fabregas.
In November BBC Radio presenter Garry Richardson claimed that he had been told that one Chelsea player said that he’d rather win that lose for Jose Mourinho.
Nevin has a number of regular media jobs including the BBC and BBC Scotland where he is a regular on radio and television.
Last week following the sacking of Mourinho Nevin was being interviewed by Richardson on BBC radio and said: ‘Yeah, that was Cesc Fabregas, wasn’t it?’
Back tracking he added: “I thought it came out it was Cesc Fabregas. If it was, he’d been one of the strongest and it just shows in his game. I found this out myself in the last couple of days that you do sometimes take on face value what people tell you and it’s not always the truth.”
A spokesman for Fabregas quickly denied the story but the well connected Charles Sale of the Daily Mail has now reported that the former Arsenal and Barcelona midfielder is seeking damages from Nevin
It seems that Nevin has overstepped the fine line between providing enough information to suggest at a story and making a damaging allegation. On Saturday Fabregas was booed by Chelsea fans as they beat Sunderland 3-1 in the first match since the departure of Mourinho.
Among his portfolio of media deals Nevin is a regular guest on Chelsea TV but that source looks like coming to a halt with other broadcasters wary of continuing to use the former Scotland internationalist.
Some overpaid tart making ridiculously ill advised and under researched accusations on the BBC? Quelle surprise.
Whatever next.
“…one Chelsea player said that he’d rather win that lose for Jose Mourinho…”
Uhm. I think you’ve written that incorrectly.
Didn’t get the point either bud
Surely it should read tather lose than wim etc.
Sloppy.
