red cardRonny Deila has changed his mind about Dedryck Boyata’s red card against Hamilton Accies and said that Craig Thomson got it wrong.

The defender was given a straight red card during the first half of the 1-1 draw in a challenge that many felt was fair and not worthy of a foul never mind a red card.

After the match on Friday night Deila claimed that Thomson had made the right decision but at a media conference today the hoops boss performed a u-turn on that view announcing that the club will appeal against the red card

“I have seen it many times, having seen it from angles I think it’s the wrong decision,” the hoops boss said.

“His foot is on the ball. We will therefore appeal it, we were punished by going down to 10 men but hopefully we don’t get a suspension.

“A tough decision. Still saying in these situations that I want my defenders to stay on their feet.

“We have quick defenders and running with people is better than taking chances and putting the ref in that situation.

When you see that he makes his decision and hits the ball then, in my opinion, it’s not a red card.”

Straight after the match Deila said: “I think it was an okay decision. Rule number one, as a defender, is stay on your feet and run with people and it is something we have to learn from.

“I have seen it again one more time and I don’t think he touched the ball and we have to learn from these situations.

“When you have one versus one, you have to run with people. We have to run with them instead of taking chances.”

The SFA are expected to look at Celtic’s appeal on Wednesday, ahead of the match with Dundee.
