Liverpool fans walk out of Anfield in protest over ticket prices

Money in FootballThousands of Liverpool fans staged a 77th minute walk out at Anfield in protest at rocketing ticket prices for the redesigned main stand.

Matchday tickets of £77 prompted the protest with a social media campaign transformed into reality at the home match with Sunderland.

Liverpool were leading 2-0 at that stage but lost late goals to Adam Johnson and Jermain DeFoe in front of a half empty stadium.

Despite being guaranteed over £100m from the new television deal Liverpool fans are angered as their club pushes season ticket prices through the £1000 barrier.

Using their twitter account Spion Kop 1906 explained: “Saturday is your chance to make your feelings known. Unhappy with the prices for next season? Then #WalkOutOn77

77 – a number associated with @LFC. From Rome ’77 to £77 a ticket. Let’s give the number 77 a meaning on Saturday. #walkouton77

If the club want to charge up to £77 a ticket, make your feelings known and walk out on 77 minutes

Up to a £13 increase in the Anfield Road next season. If you’re not happy then show your anger.

Today’s draw saw Liverpool slip back to eighth place in the Premier League- ten points behind fourth placed Arsenal in the race for a Champions League place.

Supporters groups across England have given their support to Liverpool fans on the issue of ticket prices with fans fearful that they are being priced out of the game despite the bumper television deal.
