Warburton MarkMaciej Gostomski has walked away from Sevco without saving a shot.

The highly rated keeper signed a six month deal in January but has quit the Championship pace-setters less than halfway through his contract. It’s believed that Gosto is returning to Poland to work as a fisherman.

Mark Warburton swooped for the 27-year-old before Christmas when his Lech Poznan contract was mutually consented but the dream of playing for Sevco is also now over after he packed his bags from Murray Park over the weekend.

After signing at Ibrox Gostomski revealed: “I used to watch Celtic games because of Boruc. I wouldn’t say Artur is a friend but we’ve seen each other a few times.

I’m always curious about Polish keepers and what they’re doing. I watch all of them. Boruc was a big hero in Glasgow to the Celtic fans. I hope I can be the same to Rangers fans.

We are similar. My agent helped Artur in Scotland. Artur was also here for half a year and was really good – so he signed for another five years.

I don’t know why Poland produces so many good goalies. Maybe it’s the blood.”

Looking back on his days as a fisherman he recalled: “When I was 22 I’d had enough of everything. The money in football was not so good so I thought about leaving.

I used to help my father with his fishing boats, catching eels on the lakes. It was hard work, hauling nets from morning until dinner. Then I’d go to football training – and I was happy.

I was a good fisherman. It definitely made me appreciate my life in football.

After that I went to Lech Poznan. Signing was a risk because the contract wasn’t good.

I left everything, including my work. I was a cheap goalkeeper for them and only if one of the other keepers got injured would I make the bench.

When I saw the money and people around me, I knew that next year I could be a fisherman again.”
