Celtic v UMF Stjarnan - UEFA Champions League Second Qualifying Round First Leg

Ronny Deila has turned to Kris Commons to turn around Celtic’s season.

Wednesday’s 0-0 draw at home to Dundee saw fans calling for the manager’s head after a run of three wins from seven matches.

Commons was thrown on with ten minutes left against Paul Hartley’s side and is joined in the starting XI by Callum McGregor and Gary Mackay-Steven.

Looking forward to the match Deila said: “I can really understand people reacting the way they did to the performance because we’re not satisfied with it. There was a lack of energy and we looked a bit tired, and we didn’t stay together as a team and we didn’t create anything. In the end we got a point which is the only little positive because we could have lost the game.

So we need to do now is turn it around and perform better than we did against Dundee.

It’s is about performances and it’s about confidence and, right now, the confidence hasn’t been very good because we haven’t performed the way we want to do for a few games now. We had a very good period in January but after that it’s not been the same and we have to change that around.”

After the defeat from Dundee Deila admitted: “The whole performance wasn’t good enough. We want to have as big a gap as possible but we need to get our performances better. There have been a few games in a row now where we’ve not shown our best.

We need confidence and energy in the team. That’s what we’ll work on and I know what we’re going to do and get it right again.

I’m angry, everyone is very disappointed but we’re in this together. We have to turn this around as a team. In the dressing room we can see disappointed boys but now it’s four days and we have to be up for it and get through in the cup.”
