spflConnor Ripley couldn’t believe it when he picked up the man-of-the match award in Celtic’s 2-1 win over Motherwell.

The on-loan keeper made a number of important stops during the match but will be remembered for Celtic’s second goal when a shot from Leigh Griffiths squirmed through his legs.

That mistake provided Celtic with full points after Scott McDonald had equalised Griffiths first half opened.

Despite that slip Ripley picked up the man-of-the-match award but that provided no conolation to the keeper.

I’m gutted, I feel like I’ve let the lads down and the club down,” he said. ““It’s not like me to let something go through my hands and legs like that.

I’ve never suffered one like that before, not that bad. If people question my concentration, it wasn’t that. It just slipped through me.

The saves I made in the match are irrelevant because everyone will remember my mistake. That just comes with being a goalkeeper.

I’m the last line of defence and if I make a mistake, it’ll cost us. I’m devastated, but I’ll learn from it. The best keepers in the world have made mistakes.

I can’t let myself get down about it. If it had not happened, that would have been my best game for Motherwell. I just have to get on with it and deal with it.”

Ripley will have the chance to make up for yesterday’s error with Motherwell due to visit Celtic when the post split fixtures are announced tomorrow morning.

Motherwell and Aberdeen are due to visit Celtic Park for a second time with St Johnstone, Dundee or Hearts set for a third trip to the east end to give the hoops their 19th home match.
