Disrespectful Mark Warburton has told Sky Sports about his hopes of signing former criminal Joey Barton,
Warbo, who used to work 16 hours a day, six days a week as a city trader, broke one of the unwritten rules of the game when he spoke about his hopes of signing the Burnley midfielder which many cynics see as part of the PR campaign to shift season tickets.
In 2008 Barton served two months in jail as part of a six month sentence for an assault that he admitted to a judge was violent and cowardly.
With cash needed quickly to satisfy existing loan arrangements Sevco have been linked with a number of players with Warbo happy to run with the script in an interview with Sky Sports.
“There’s no secrets in Glasgow,” the former city trader admitted as he added fuel to the links with Barton. “He’s a very talented individual but he’s a Burnley player still but he’s a very talented individual, he offers an experience and the maturity we maybe need to add to the squad.
“He was in the Championship team of the year after fantastic season for him and I’m sure he has many options but all we can do is show him what Rangers represents and see where that goes. He’s sought after by many clubs so we’ll see where it goes.”
The public campaign linking the cash strapped club with Barton is very similar to the attempts to unsettle and sign Scott Allan from Hibs at the start of the season.
In between placing two derisory bids for the midfielder Warbo said: “My job is to manage the team and look after our squad of players. I think it’s really inappropriate for any manager or coach to talk about another team’s staff.
“He’s not my player. He’s a Hibs player. I think if anyone was talking about one of my players I would be more than irate. So it’s not for me to talk about another club’s player.”
