Celtic’s u-17 side slipped to a 4-3 defeat at Hamilton Accies to leave three teams in contention for the title with two matches left to play.

A win would have given Celtic the championship but with Hamilton now two points behind the hoops have to beat Hibs away and Hamilton at Lennoxtown to secure the title.

Celtic sit on 61 points with two games left, Sevco are two behind with one game left with Hamilton on the same points mark with two matches to play.

Accies probably deserved the victory with Celtic only playing in patches with the hoops struggling in the three matches since winning the Glasgow Cup convincingly at Ibrox.

Next up for Celtic is a trip to Hibs on Tuesday before completing the campaign at home to Hamilton with Accies away to Hibs on Sunday.

Jack Aitchison, Keiran Campbell and Josh Kerr came into the side that drew 5-5 with Partick Thistle with the injured Shaun Bowers dropping out alongside Innes Murray and Broque Watson.

Kerr partnered Wallace Duffy in the centre of defence with Stephen Welsh shifted over to right-back with Daniel Church operating on the left, in midfield Lewis Bell was reunited with Kerr McInroy while Campbell, Ross McLaughlin and Mikey Johnston supported Aitchison in attack.

It was a nervy start from the league leaders who seemed to have a hangover from losing three goals in the last five minutes to Partick Thistle on Sunday.

An early free kick from Johnston found the side netting but it was Hamilton that enjoyed most of the possession and it was no surprise when they took the lead in the 22nd minute.

A quick turn from Ryan Tierney on the edge of the box created some space with the striker confidently tucking his shot low past Aiden McAdams from 16 yards out.

It could have been a second goal a minute later but Duffy cleared off the line after Tierney had clipped a shot over McAdams with the keeper colliding with Bell as he tried to block the shot.

Celtic slowly worked their way into the match with Johnston the main threat coming in off the left flank.

Four minutes from the break Celtic levelled when Johnston exchanged passes with McLaughlin to open up the Accies defence then tuck his shot low into the net.

Celtic started the second half on the front foot and tested the Accies goal before Kerr netted in the 55th minute, powering a header into the net following a corner on the right.

The lead only lasted for eight minutes with Accies turning the match around with two goals from Tierney within 60 seconds with the striker heading home a cross from the right then glancing a header over McAdams from a corner.

Celtic pushed forward in search of an equaliser with Aitchison striking the post from a tight angle following a pass from substitute Ewan Henderson.

Fifteen minutes from the end Aitchison blazed a shot over the bar after being found unmarked 15 yards from goal by Johnston.

With ten minutes left to play Celtic pushed forward again with Johnston sliding the ball right to Campbell, whether it was a cross or a shot didn’t matter as the ball sailed over the Accies keeper into the net.

Unfortunately there was another twist to the game with Steffan Connelly netting for the home side with five minutes left to play.
