Stefan Johansen opened the scoring as he helped Norway to a 3-2 win over Iceland last night.

With Norway missing out on a place in France for the European Championships the result was largely academic with Iceland fielding a second XI ahead of the serious action which starts against Portugal on June 14.

Norwegian boss Per Mathias Hogmo is preparing for net season’s World Cup qualifying campaign with another friendly arranged away to Belgium on Sunday.

Germany and the Czech Republic will provide the main competition in Group C with Johansen installed as captain for the new campaign.

Leading by example the Celtic midfielder opened the scoring after 39 seconds against Iceland with a fierce angled shot that took a slight deflection into the net.

Johansen was substituted with eight minutes left to play with former Celt Teddy Bjarnason, currently playing for AGF Aarhus, coming on for the last half hour for the visitors.

With the squads named and the opening match eight days away most countries are involved in a round of friendly matches ahead of the serious action in France.

Spain are the holders of the Euro crown but despite being able to call upon the stars of Barcelona, Real Madrid and Athletico seem to have fallen down the rankings since their feeble defence of the World Cup in Brazil.

With the incentive of going for a third Euro title Spain demolished South Korea 6-1 at their Austrian training base with David Silva scoring two of the goals.

Also in Austria last night the Czech Republic enjoyed a 2-1 win over Russia while Belgium were held to a 1-1 draw by Finland.
