Teemu Pukki returns to Scottish football tonight when Brondby face Hibs at Easter Road in the Europa League.

The former Celtic striker scored a hat-trick in the previous round demolition job on Valur from Iceland but failed to make any sort of impression during his time in Glasgow.

Pukki made a scoring debut against Hearts at Tynecastle but after being billed as a replacement for Gary Hooper the Finnish internationalist found himself in the hall of shame alongside Amido Balde and Derk Boerrigter.

“Scottish football doesn’t suit me perfectly, how I want to play football,” the Finnish internationalist said. “There’s not so much space, because the other teams mostly defended quite deep against Celtic, so they took my weapon away.

“It’s physical and tough; I think (the Scottish Premiership) is a good league – it was not so easy for me.

“Especially at Celtic, the pressure is higher than other teams. That is not easy, and when you don’t play so well, and you hear people talking, it’s not so easy. And there’s a lot of pressure playing for Celtic.”

The quietly spoken Scandinavian never seemed comfortable in the spotlight with a season long loan to Brondby arranged shortly after Ronny Deila replaced Neil Lennon.

Season 2013/14 was marred by home cup defeats from Morton and Aberdeen while the Champions League ‘campaign’ ended in a 6-1 hammering in the Nou Camp.

Despite those set-back’s Pukki still has fond memories from his season in Scotland.

I have great memories of playing in the Champions League at Celtic Park,” he added. “That was something I will never forget, and of course we won a championship and that’s something no-one can take away from me.

“Neil Lennon was a great manager; he really got your team in the mood and wanting to play for him.”

Brondby finished last season in fourth place in the Danish league.
