Hull City are believed to be preparing a bid for Beram Kayal.

The former Celtic midfielder has a year left on his Brighton deal with promoted Hull impressed by Kayal’s battling displays last season.

Kayal was tipped for the top in the English game during his first season at Celtic but finally left unheralded in January 2014 to join a relegation fight on the south coast.

Under Chris Hughton Brighton were rejuvenated last season with Kayal cleaning up the Player-Of-The-Year awards after failing to win promotion through the play-off’s.

Steve Bruce is a big admirer of the midfielder with a bid of £2m likely to secure the 28-year-old.

Brighton are loathe to lose Kayal but similar to the situation with Stefan Johansen know that they are as well to cash in now rather than see a contract run down.

Bruce is a big fan of Scottish football with Shaun Maloney, Robert Snodgrass and Allan McGregor all part of his promotion winning squad.

According to the local paper, The Argus: “They are entitled to think a fair bit more than £4 million, considering the amount of money swilling around in the Premier League, but Stephens (midfielder Dale) is in a strong bargaining position with a year remaining on his existing contract.

Of course, Albion are determined to keep him. And, of course, they will do everything within their power to do so.

The same applies to Kayal, the subject of speculative rather than concrete interest linking him with Hull.

The reality is it will be down to the players. They are the ones holding most of the cards.”
