John Guidetti believes that Manchester United have signed a cross between Diego Maradona and Johan Cruyff with the capture of Zlatan Ibrahimovic.
The Swedish icon has finally agreed his move to Old Trafford leaving PSG to find a replacement for last season’s 50 goal striker.
Euro 2016 proved to be Ibrahimovic’s farewell on the international stage with Guidetti thrilled to play alongside the inspiration to a new generation of young Swedes.
“We’re going to have to think of something else- the substitution of Zlatan is simply impossible,” Guidetti told Moiceleste. “And it’s similar to what happened to Argentina and the Netherlands when Maradona and Cruyff retired.
“These players are born only once and not always in Sweden. Zlatan is an example for us all. What makes it so special is its pursuit of perfection. You might think that we have seen all of it, but make no mistake, it’s really the opposite.”
After helping Sweden to win last summer’s Euro u21 title Guidetti made the step up to the full squad for France. Although Sweden finished Group E in last place with just one point it was another sign of progress for the former Celtic striker.
Guidetti was used mainly as a substitute in La Liga but managed a respectable seven goals from 12 starts and 23 substitute appearances.
Half a dozen years after being tipped as the next big thing to come out of Sweden the new season will be critical for his career as he enjoys the novelty of returning to the club that he completed the previous season with.
The 24-year-old has never been short of confidence but filling the boots of Zlatan may be too big of an ask for the Celta Vigo man.
