Chris Davies has dropped a heavy hint that Efe Ambrose is on his way out of Celtic.

The defender has been linked with moves to Germany, Turkey and China and has less than a year left on his contract.

After a disastrous display in the 1-0 defeat away to Lincoln Red Imps Ambrose failed to make the bench for the return leg.

Brendan Rodgers switched to a back three and has recently talked up moving Mikael Lustig as a central defensive option while praising the impact of Kristoffer Ajer.

Celtic fans lost patience with Ambrose some time ago with Davies hinting strongly that the defender’s days are numbered.

Asked if Ambrose could be guaranteed a place in Rodgers’ plans the Celtic assistant manager told The Sun: “All I can say about Efe is that since we’ve come in here he’s been great to work with every day, his personality and his attitude to training.

And he’s given everything he can, every session and every day. He’s been a pleasure to work with on a day-to-day basis.

But we’re obviously assessing the whole squad and assessing what we need to bring in to improve and take the team forward.

We are trying to look at the quality and then refine it down to the core group that we will be working with and there might be opportunity for players to move on.”

Last night’s UEFA transfer deadline passed without Celtic making any signings although a wild-card signing can be added to the squad by Tuesday- 24 hours before facing Astana.
