To describe the newly launched Celtic kit as striking would be something of an understatement!

Apparently based on the ticket colouring for the 1967 European Cup Final, the match programme was mainly blue, the pink and black third kit will be in the shops, down the street, in the park and no doubt on the beaches from tomorrow.

Some traditionalists are horrified while the trendies feel that it is well cool. What most can say is that it will be a big seller with a strong emphasis towards the female market.

According to Richard Wright, General Manager of New Balance Football: “The Lisbon Lions’ feat 49 years ago was truly remarkable, made even more so by winning not just one but five trophies that season.

“These men – all born within a 30-mile radius of Celtic Park – have left a legacy that may never be repeated by any team in the modern era again. This kit is a testament to this achievement and as we look forward to the future.”

What Leigh Griffiths thinks about the colour scheme is probably best kept private but donning his captains armband one-time Hibs midfielder Scott Brown picked up on the Lisbon theme telling the Celtic website: “The 1967 team blazed a trail across Europe on their way to the final in Lisbon which to this day still remains one of the biggest highlights in this club’s illustrious history.

“It’s an inspiration to think we are following in the footsteps of legends like these and this great history makes Celtic such a special club.”
