Six critical weeks for Rodgers to make his mark

Brendan Rodgers has six days to see off Lincoln Red Imps- and six weeks to make change at Celtic.

Like all Celtic fans Bertie Auld watched Tuesday’s defeat in horror as the hoops crashed to an embarrassing first leg defeat to the champions of Gibraltar.

Rodgers’ trust in the squad that he inherited from Ronny Deila backfired big time with a fresh push underway to bring in new faces with a tried and tested central defender top of the transfer wish list.

Brendan gave quite a few players an opportunity and, after that performance and that result, there will be a few of them looking over their shoulders and wondering whether they still have a future at the club,” Auld told The Scottish Sun.

This was a wake-up call for the manager and his staff. They know every league in England and I would expect them to start bringing players in as soon as he possibly can.

Brendan used 14 players the other night and he’ll have learned a lot about the strengths and weaknesses of those guys. Undoubtedly, things will get better and he has six weeks of the transfer window left to try to bring in his own players.

He could have sifted through DVDs and film of every Celtic game last season, but it’s only when you are there in the dug-out and watching the players live that you notice things about them.

It’s when the competitive stuff comes around that you get the true value of your players.

I think it would be fair to say Brendan Rodgers found out a thing or two about some of his squad in that game.

He won’t be in any doubt about the qualities of some individuals and I’ve no doubt he will act accordingly.

Brendan will want his own men in place and he has until the end of next month to strengthen the playing staff.

I’m convinced he will put every minute of that to good use as he looks to put a squad together that will be good enough to compete in the Champions League group stages.”

When a six year stretch at the Sunday Mirror came to an end it was clear that the future was digital, print had ran its race.

Smart phones and social media created a new landscape, Video Celts has certainly made an impact with Joe described as having an unhealthy obsession by Peter Lawwell at the 2024 Celtic AGM. A priceless endorsement.

There are issues breaking around the clock, no two days are the same. More than 50 years on from his first match Joe is enjoying the ongoing successes of Celtic.
