Image for Warbo explains delay on Dodoo development fee

Mark Warburton has revealed that cash-strapped Sevco are struggling to put together the development fee for Joe Dodoo.

The Leicester strike ace- who has been likened with Jamie Vardy, Filip Sebo and a young Zlatan Ibrahimovic- is out of contract but the Premier League champions are still due a fee for the time spent developing the academy ace.

It’s believed that a sum in the region of £143,652.82 is involved with funds in short supply at Ibrox following the signings of Josh Windass, Dean Crooks and Jordan Rossiter by the same means.

Confirming that Dodoo is unlikely to play against Annan Athletic tomorrow Warbo said: ‘I’m hoping the paperwork is being finalised. The two clubs are talking. It’s above my pay grade so I will let the clever people get on with that and I’ll do my stuff out there.

I think it will be too late for tomorrow night but fingers crossed we can get that one to completion.

He has trained with us and he’s a top young lad and a top young talent as well. I’ll be excited to get him on board.”

With Dave King’s family warchest tied up in South Africa Warbo, who used to work as a city trader, explained his obsession with English cast offs.

It’s a UEFA guideline and the club have followed strict protocol,” he revealed. “English clubs are terrified of tribunals because you never know what will happen.

Once a decision is made, you have to stick to it. It’s a scary one for them – with talented young players the fee could be anything.

For us, it’s more defined. We know exactly what a player will cost us. And it’s important that we use every possible advantage.

No club wants to lose their best young players. But the English clubs are aware of the situation – it’s a UEFA directive.”
