Filip Twardzik has left Bolton by mutual consent with a year left on his contract.

The midfielder seemed destined for the top as he emerged through the ranks at Celtic but after a horrendous run of injuries joined up with Neil Lennon at the then Championship club in February 2015.

Injuries continued to plague the attacking midfielder with Bolton confirming his departure in a club statement last night.

It read: “Filip Twardzik has left Bolton Wanderers after a mutual agreement was reached to cancel his contract with the club.

The 23-year-old joined the Whites on a free transfer from Celtic in February 2015, going on to feature five times during his 18-month stay at Macron Stadium.

Capable of playing in both midfield and defence, Twardzik scored on his Bolton debut against Derby County shortly after joining the club while his last Trotters appearance came against Cardiff City in December 2015.

Everyone associated with Bolton Wanderers wishes Filip well in his future career in the game.”

It’s likely that Filip, whose brother Patrik also played in the Celtic youth side, will return to Germany to find a club and get his career back on track.

After arriving at Celtic in 2009 his skill on the ball quickly made him a stand out performer as Stevie Frail’s side won back to back doubles in 2010 and 2011.

Twardzik made his first team debut against Lyon at the 2010 Emirates Cup with Tony Mowbray in charge.

He made his competitive debut at Peterhead in a Scottish Cup tie in January 2012 and appeared as a substitute at Rugby Park later that year as Celtic clinched the SPL title with a 6-0 win over Kilmarnock.
