Blundering Craig Thomson will be in charge of the Salzburg v Dinamo Zagreb Champions League play-off tie tomorrow.

Thommo has had a nightmare start to the season highlighted by successive appointments on BT Sport who will screen the action from Austria tomorrow night although Chris Sutton is unlikely to be involved.

Salzburg are favourites to go through after a 1-1 draw in Croatia but there are bound to be plenty of local tensions for the match officials to deal with.

A five man team of Scottish officials will cover the match including Andrew Dallas whose daddy used to work for UEFA.

As well as his erratic handling of the St Johnstone v Celtic match Thomson is in bother after cutting short the half time interval by more than a minute.

Rather than working alongside broadcasters BT Sport Thomson decided to do his own thing costing the broadcaster a fortune in lost advertising.

According to the Daily Record a television production source explained: “Kick-off times are imperative, not only for domestic broadcasters but also worldwide.

“For example a commercial broadcaster in China would base their adverts on kick-off times so normally at half-time you’d have two commercial breaks to take, about five minutes long each.

“Kicking off late isn’t a problem but if a referee goes early then most likely you’re still on commercials.

“That didn’t happen to BT because they guessed that’s what the referee might so they just came back from the ads early.

On Saturday Thomson will referee the Dundee United v Raith Rovers match with Bobby Madden in charge of Celtic v Aberdeen.
