It might have made for a useful combination but there was a Swedish striker who’d probably have kept them apart.

After a short apprenticeship Chris Sutton is making the sort of media strides Davie Provan managed 20 years ago of becoming a pundit on his own right rather than just another ex footballer passing time with nothing much to contribute.

Sutton is increasingly getting out and about to interview the big names in the game and has a rapport and understanding from his time within the game.

Just like his style on the park Griffiths is relaxed and comfortable discussing different aspects of his game and admitting, diplomatically, that qualifying for the Champions League would have been a struggle under Ronny Deila.

Looking back at last season and his hopes for the new term Griffiths said: “Last season I scored 40 goals but I missed four penalties and a host of chances.

I cant rest on what I did last season it’s all about what I do this season. I might not hit 40 goals but under this manager my all round game will improve

Players improve under him, Luis Suarez got better working with him and got his massive move to Barcelona. He deserved it and that’s credit to the gaffer who changed him as a player.”

Looking at Celtic’s prospects for qualifying into the group phase of the Champions League Griffiths revealed: “We had a team meeting over in Slovenia during pre season and getting to the Champions League group stage was the top target

I knew from previous experience of the manager down south, when he worked with Liverpool in Champions League that we could do it. He has worked and the top level and has brought that experience up here.”

Joe McHugh has edited Video Celts since 2010, every day covering events in and around Scotland's most successful club.

When a six year stretch at the Sunday Mirror came to an end it was clear that the future was digital, print had ran its race.

Smart phones and social media created a new landscape, Video Celts has certainly made an impact with Joe described as having an unhealthy obsession by Peter Lawwell at the 2024 Celtic AGM. A priceless endorsement.

There are issues breaking around the clock, no two days are the same. More than 50 years on from his first match Joe is enjoying the ongoing successes of Celtic.
