Dedryck Boyata will make his first appearance of the season tonight when Celtic take on Inter Milan in Limerick.

The defender hasn’t played since April and has still to make an impression on Brendan Rodgers.

Boyata was signed by Ronny Deila in June 2015 for £1.5m from Manchester City with Celtic assistant Chris Davies looking forward to seeing the defender in action.

It’s a really important step for Dedryck,” Davies said after Celtic arrived in Limerick for tonight’s match.

He has been out for a little while now and we see him as an important player moving forward. He is going to build up his rehab now and hopefully he can go from strength to strength.”

Against Motherwell on Wednesday night Celtic finished the match with James Forrest, Callum McGregor, Eoghan O’Connell, Jamie McCart, Liam Henderson and Anthony Ralston from the club academy on the pitch.

Jack Aithchison, Calvin Miller and Regan Hendry are all in the squad for today’s match with Davies pleased by the quality of the players emerging from within the club.

There’s a real excitement,” Davies added. “We ended up with quite a few Academy players on the pitch the other night.

A great sign of the work done within the Academy. Been really impressed with quality of the young players, well schooled here

A lot of positivity. A really good feeling about the place, a real positive mindset at the moment.”

Frank de Boer will be in charge of Inter Milan for tonight’s match.
