Erik Sviachenko may be out injured but there is no doubt that he has fuly bought into the Celtic family.

The Danish defender was signed in January by Ronny Deila when the club was at a recent low- in his first three matches Celtic lost to Ross County, Aberdeen before struggling past East Kilbride in the Scottish Cup.

That brutal winter week probably didn’t feature in Celtic’s pitch to sign the defender but he wasn’t put off or deterred and quickly embraced the connection between team and supporters.

In the Scottish Cup nightmare at Hampden there was one genuine moment of joy- when Erik headed the equaliser to cancel out the pain of going behind to the SPFL newcomers from Ibrox.

After that match Sviachenko would have been one of the few players able to show face with the support- when the fifth title in a row was collected the Dane celebrated as much as anyone.

One of the first signs of him ‘getting Celtic’ was when his partner signed up for the Celtic ladies team- shortly before giving birth.

Yesterday on twitter he showed how deep the Celtic/Sviachenko link runs as he posted a picture with his son William- both of them wearing the one club shirt truly recognisable worldwide.

There seems little doubt that Erik is a future Celtic captain- don’t bet against William following in his old man’s footsteps.
