Dorus de Vries is in Glasgow for a medical ahead of signing for Celtic.

The 35-year-old worked with Brendan Rodgers at Swansea and will sign for a nominal fee from Nottingham Forrest.

Dutchman de Vries will be registered in time for next week’s Champions League qualifier against Hapoel Beer Sheva and provide back up for Craig Gordon.

With Logan Bailly out injured Leo Fasan has been on the bench so far this season but the young Italian has yet to play in any competitive match.

De Vries played a big role in Swansea winning promotion to the Premier League but was replaced by Michel Vorm.

After selling de Vries to Wolves in 2011 Rodgers said: “I’ve got no gripe against him whatsoever. I sit here fortunate I got the chance to work with Dorus who was a good man.

“All I can speak of in terms of Dorus is his time here. He was brilliant in my time here, I stressed right the way through last season I felt he was important for us to re-sign but the two parties, him and the club couldn’t find an agreement and he felt the challenge and change was needed at this point in his career.

“I said at the time I was very, very disappointed because he was instrumental in how we played but it was his decision to go and what was going to be important for us was not just to find a goalkeeper but to find a top goalkeeper that could fit into our style and identity.

“I was absolutely delighted that we were able to bring in… one of the best goalkeepers now in the Premier League in Michel Vorm.”
