Brendan Rodgers refuses to give up on Efe Ambrose.

The accident prone defender put through his own net against Barcelona with some fans booing him afterwards.

Rodgers has studied last season’s matches closely and feels that he can help turn things around for the Nigerian defender.

“I spoke to him about the game at the weekend and he’s very unlucky and very unfortunate in a lot of moments,” the Celtic boss said.

“But of course it’s difficult for him because in a lot of moments in the game he defended well, he was fast. As a defender it’s all about the key moments.

“He’s fine, he’s a good guy like I said. He trains very well and is doing his absolute best.

“I know the last couple of years have been tough for him and obviously he’s had a couple of risk moments, which you can’t afford as a defender but I think at the weekend he was hugely unlucky with that.

“I’ll always pick the team in terms of performance and of course that has been tough, because of the injuries, is the availability of players.

“We’ll always pick a team to look to get the job done and at this moment in time he’s a Celtic player.

“Efe gives everything everyday and there’s no-one that wants to cut out the mistakes more than him. If he can do that then he’s a valuable player.”

It seems that Rodgers has to choose between Ambrose and Saidy Janko for tonight’s match with Astana.

If he goes with Janko then Mikael Lustig can move inside to partner Eoghan O’Connell in the centre of defence, if he goes with Ambrose the Swede will be in his usual position at right-back.

When a six year stretch at the Sunday Mirror came to an end it was clear that the future was digital, print had ran its race.

Smart phones and social media created a new landscape, Video Celts has certainly made an impact with Joe described as having an unhealthy obsession by Peter Lawwell at the 2024 Celtic AGM. A priceless endorsement.
