Mark Warburton is hoping to pull off a £25,000 trick with Joleon Lescott!

The Sevco boss was pictured in talks with the former England defender who is available on a free from Aston Villa who are desperate to shift his £45,000-a week wages off of their payroll.

Warbo, who used to work as a city trader, is on the lookout for another centre half and has had Phillipe Senderos training at Murray Park this week.

Lescott has never made any secret of the fact that money is his motivating factor, earning the wrath of Villa fans last season for tweeting pictures of his high performance cars after being criticised for his displays as the club headed for relegation.

According to a report in The Star Lescott picked up a £45,000 a week deal when he signed a two year contract from West Brom last summer.

With fears over the ability of Danny Wilson, Rob Kiernan and Clint Hill to play at the highest level it seems that Warbo is ready to smash the Ibrox pay structure to bring in Lescott.

Explaining the need for dressing room harmony to the Evening Times in October Warbo said: “Everyone sits in the same dressing room and I’m not a fan of players being on difference appearance fees or whatever. We are playing the same game and everyone has to be on the same level.

You can get a very good player, but you have to make sure you keep the dressing room happy. A lack of harmony is the last thing you want. It does far more harm than good.”
