On the pitch he has barely made a mistake, off it Brendan Rodgers has played a blinder.
In Scottish football Joey Barton’s comments may seem important but having managed Liverpool the current Celtic boss has dealt with much more substantial matters than the yelpings of an attention seeking fading thirty something.
Last week’s comments about Rodgers kept Barton in the spotlight with the Press Association picking up on them and relaying them to almost every news agency.
The follow up to those comments was to get Rodgers response, the Celtic boss couldn’t have looked more disinterested as he dismissed the noise coming from Ibrox.
The story rambled on with Mark Warburton claiming that his midfield ace was just joking to a national audience.
Barton’s manager said: “I haven’t heard the interview. But I think it was very much tongue in cheek. There is nothing malicious. There is nothing disrespectful. I’m sure it’s a tongue-in-cheek, sarcastic remark.
“If it was otherwise, you tell me but I can’t believe it was said in anything other than light humour.
“I don’t need to speak to him, he’s aware. He’s no fool. He knows the size of the club. He knows the size of the fan base. He’s a good speaker.
“He’s a football anorak. He loves his football and his facts and his data. He’s an avid reader. He’s a smart guy.”
Tomorrow night Rodgers will attempt to steer Celtic into the group phase of the Champions League, Barton is likely to be on twitter typing about big football matches.
