Celtic go into the international break with a one point lead at the top of the Premier League having played a game less than their rivals.

The 4-1 win over Aberdeen confirmed the hoops superiority on the domestic beat despite a demanding midweek trip to Israel and the trauma involved in qualifying for the Champions League.

Brendan Rodgers made some decisive action after the defeat in Israel with Saidy Janko and Craig Gordon relegated to the bench.

Dorus de Vries came in for his debut, he had little to do but got out of jail after one misplaced pass left Kolo Toure exposed but the danger passed.

By that stage Adam Rooney had equalised Leigh Griffiths’ opener which was followed by a touching tribute to teenager Kieran McDade who had died the previous day.

Shortly before the interval James Forrest restored Celtic’s lead- scoring for the third consecutive SPFL fixture.

Aberdeen did have a decent period of dominance in the second half but were unable to put de Vries and the Celtic defence under any significant pressure.

Celtic weathered the storm and came back to sore twice in the last five minutes through Scott Sinclair and Tom Rogic to reinforce the distance between the two clubs.

After a hectic start to the season Rodgers can turn his attention to the transfer market as he attempts to bring in a new face or two for the autumn Champions League campaign.

Celtic have until midnight on Wednesday to bring in any new faces with most speculation today focussed on James McCarthy and Andre Wisdom.
